In an exclusive interview with GamesMagazine Brazil, Tim Scoffham, the CEO of WA.Technology, offers a glimpse into the company's unique approach in the iGaming sector.

Explore WA.Technology's triumphs, challenges, and visionary plans for markets such as Brazil and Africa; discover how WA.Technology is redefining the iGaming experience with its bespoke services and customer-centric solutions.

WA.Technology has caught the eye of the industry. What makes your solutions, products, and services stand out from the crowd?

At WA.Technology, our uniqueness stems from our commitment to our full spectrum of tailor-made iGaming solutions. We’re not a run-of-the-mill provider churning out cloned solutions; everything we make is entirely individual and unique.

Central to our approach is WA.Platform it combines our full spectrum of platform solutions into one easy-to-use solution and is designed for peak customisation and efficiency. The imminent upgrade of WA.Platform is going to be really rewarding for our operators. It emphasises our dedication to enhancing the functionality of everything we do. WA.Platform includes various features such as a comprehensive, optimised, ready-to-use BI reporting suite, tailored casino AI, and a versatile CMS that uniquely caters to each user, client, and market. It makes the platform adaptable and localised while maintaining a cohesive brand identity.

We believe in real personalisation for the player and the client. Our primary focus is to provide highly customised and localised solutions with local support from the teams on the ground to differentiate each client’s brand. Each brand is unique per client, per market. To enhance our customisation, our team comprises a wide range of specialists and experts who truly understand each market and its people, the nuances within regions and their cultures, and how best to serve our clients. While some providers lump together large areas, such as Latam, we see individual countries and individual areas within the countries themselves. For example, what’s suitable for Brazil may not be ideal for Mexico or Peru. We believe in a total tailoring iGaming experience.

Emerging markets involve complex challenges. What makes WA.Technology’s approach different to other providers?

Tackling the intricacies of emerging markets is a multifaceted task. It involves a profound understanding of local preferences and regulatory environments. It’s a strategy encompassing market-specific expertise while continually refining our full spectrum of products. We take a holistic approach, factoring in cultural nuances, payment preferences, and popular trends.

Our team works closely with local experts to ensure our products are globally appealing and locally resonant. Our collaborations with Latin American entertainment specialists and experts on all things iGaming in Africa NE Group were strategic decisions to ensure we could always provide the right product and service to each specific market in which our clients operate. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of local knowledge.

What are the crucial elements providers and operators must address in growing markets such as Latam and Africa?

Thriving in emerging markets hinges on creating resonant solutions that align with the local people and regulatory frameworks. This demands high adaptability, creative thinking, and a deep commitment to understanding and fulfilling local requirements.

Furthermore, a proficient legal team is crucial for keeping abreast of and complying with evolving regulations, requiring a combination of strategic vision, agile development, and dedicated client engagement. Luckily, along with our great partnerships with collaborators, we also have a solid team at WA.Technology itself, made up of highly respected experts who know their markets inside out.

What are your expectations for post-regulation success in Brazil?

Brazil's market has been a focal point for us, and the progress we've seen is just the beginning. The dedication of our Brazilian team to building strong client relationships and delivering bespoke products has been vital. With the new regulatory landscape, we are positioned to further capitalise on this growth, expecting a surge in opportunities and sustained client success.

Our recent appointment of Waldir Marques, a highly respected and experienced regulatory expert and former CEO of the Brazilian government-backed lottery syndicate CAIXA Loterias S.A., as Director of Regulatory Affairs proves our dedication to ensuring our clients always get the best possible localised content whilst always keeping within the law. Waldir is highly respected in his native Brazil, so we’re delighted to have him on board; his appointment proves our commitment to quality for our clients.

What accomplishments of WA.Technology are you most proud of?

Our journey has been marked by significant strides, especially over the last twelve months. Most recently, we won the Best Aggregator Award at the SiGMA Eurasia Awards, an incredible achievement for the entire team, and last year, we won the Platform Provider of the Year Silver Award at SBC LATINOAMÉRICA 2023. Being recognised by fellow industry experts is highly rewarding for the entire team. Being acknowledged by our peers is terrific, but of course, the recognition we always strive to get is that of our clients for whom we work so hard. Our continual growth and presence in Latam, especially in Brazil with giants such as PixBet, proves that.

We always keep in line with the changing regulatory landscape. We recently announced our partnership with Latam iGaming experts, ensuring our products and solutions are always created with a deep knowledge and understanding of the various, specific Latam iGaming markets and how best to tailor everything we do to each demographic. This partnership is key in our strategic approach to expanding into Mexico.

Equally pivotal is our Africa-specific platform, WA.Africa, a venture made even better by our African iGaming experts. The new Afrocentric platform is a bespoke omnichannel platform solution, integrating mobile, retail, and online gaming to provide a distinctive experience tailored to the African iGaming sector. As with Latam, we understand the vast difference between the various African locations and consider that. It’s already proving highly popular with African iGaming stalwarts Supabets choosing us to expand their operations wider within Africa.

Lastly, how do you foresee the future evolution of WA.Technology?

Looking ahead, we envision WA.Technology becoming a more prominent and influential player globally, particularly in Latam and Africa. Our focus remains on delivering custom solutions that use cutting-edge technologies and market trends. We’ve several exciting projects underway, such as our new WA.Lottery games and WA.Fantasy’s Daily Fantasy Sports pools that we showcased at events like ICE London earlier this year. We’ve also got exciting news about a much-anticipated upgrade of our WA.Poker vertical is coming very soon, too, which we’re really excited about. We're dedicated to continually advancing our technology, coverage, products, solutions, and services, elevating WA.Technology even further. Watch this space!
