Whether you’re a long-time online casino veteran or new to the iGaming scene, you’ll come across numerous phrases, terms, and abbreviations that may not immediately give you a clear picture of what they mean.
To simplify things, we’ve collated the most-used online casino and live casino words in a comprehensive, easy-to-use alphabetical glossary and reference guide.
Key Knowledge – T&Cs
Before we begin our glossary, a little more on Terms and conditions (T&Cs). Often, people jump straight into online casinos, relying solely on their experiences in land-based casinos. While this is useful for some aspects, it can cause some pitfalls, as although the games are often essentially the same, there are some significant differences between the two.
T&Cs that online players encounter vary widely from platform to platform. Although they are one of the most important aspects for players to get their heads around, they’re often the most overlooked. So before we dive straight into our alphabetised glossary, here are a few points about T&Cs worth looking at in more detail.
Wagering Requirements
Wagering requirements (WR) differ from site to site. This is important to know. WR means how much a player must bet to withdraw any bonus money. The WR will be given as a multiplier within any promotional T&Cs.
Players will need to match the bonus received with a deposit and then wager (bet) that amount with real money multiplied by the number of times given as the WR before being able to withdraw any bonus winnings (playthrough requirements).
Think of it as a simple maths calculation. If a player receives a €10 bonus and the wagering requirements are 10x, they would need to deposit €10 and wager the same amount ten times before being able to withdraw. Like this:
- Bonus amount multiplied by the wagering requirement amount = amount that must be deposited/bet with real money (not bonus funds).
- Bonus = €10 with WR of 10x.
- Therefore, €10 X 10 = €100. You must wager €100 with real money before withdrawing your bonus funds.
So if a player won a prize of €75 in bonus winnings with their €10 bonus cash that had a WR of 10x, they would need to deposit and wager €100 (in actual money, NOT bonus money) before being able to withdraw their €75 bonus winnings.
Many free online WR calculators can help anyone unsure about how much exactly they need to deposit before withdrawal, so if in doubt, check one out. Also, check for time limits on when you need to fulfil the WR. Usually, there is a deadline, meaning you must deposit and meet the WR amount by a specific date or time to complete the WR and withdraw your bonus winnings.
Remember, ALWAYS read the promotional T&Cs as well as the general T&Cs.
You will also have to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) identification checks before withdrawing and having an approved withdrawal option (some e-wallets are not accepted by all platforms, for example). There may also be withdrawal and bet limits that limit the size of bet you can place and the size of winnings you can withdraw. If you place a bet and the winnings are €2,000, but the withdrawal limit is €1,000, you will forfeit €1,000.
All reputable online casinos follow strict guidelines regarding safety and security, so be sure to read and follow the T&Cs carefully; they won’t be able to bend the rules for someone who has not met the T&Cs. Contact the casino’s customer support service for more help if in doubt.
