WA.Technology's CEO Tim Scoffham: Exclusive Interview with iGaming Brazil

WA.Technology’s CEO, Tim Scoffham, gave an exclusive video interview to iGaming Brazil at the recent ICE London 2024 event. Learn more about what WA.Technology has in store for its clients and their customers, and why so many new iGaming brands in Latam and Africa join forces with the talented team. Watch the video here or read below to discover why 2023 was such a crucial year for the ever-expanding company and why 2024 promises to be even better.

What are your expectations for ICE?

ICE is a fantastic show. Everyone knows this is the last year in London, which is a shame, but ICE London 2024 is always an amazing show.

As for the company’s expectations, we’ve put much effort into promoting our brand as a B2B provider. We're really building the brand. People are learning more about where we are, what we have, our products, and how they can help them. We look at some of these other brilliant companies at ICE and understand what they're doing. We compare them to where we are and enjoy seeing some of the other brilliant offerings that people are showcasing here at this event.

What about the year for WA.Technology? What will we see in 2024?

We spent a lot of time in 2023 laying the foundations preparing ourselves for this year.  We had a good year in 2023, but we're looking at considerable growth in 2024.

The foundations that enabled us to do that were developments on our platforms in terms of customisation, security, and the provision of a fully-fledged data suite. We’re launching additional products – lottery being a big one – and continuing to build the product suite within our free-to-play gaming and fantasy games to go alongside our casinos and sports books. Those are all now launched to really scale up through 2024.

Ultimately, for 2024, it's our expansion through the Latam market. We're doing quite well in Brazil, so we want to take our model from Brazil and replicate what we learned in other markets. We recently launched in Mexico, which will be a hub for the rest of Latam outside of Brazil, enabling us to work with our customers in markets like Peru and Columbia.

At the same time, we've also been looking at other frontier markets and regions, including Africa. We've been developing our product suite and knowledge-based learning to accelerate our position there. We've begun a recent joint venture with a company with a really smart piece of technology that we can integrate with what we have in terms of content and features to make it relevant to the African market in our WA.Africa platform

2024 is looking forward in terms of the year, but trying to put into place and monetise all the foundations we laid in 2023, including product features, local knowledge, and responding to the different nuances of those regions within Latam and Africa.

What about the Brazilian regulations? It's a very sensitive question, but what do you think about that?

It's really exciting when a market regulates. We're already quite present in Brazil because of the partners that we're working with there. So that's exciting for us and exciting for them.

We recognise that it also comes with challenges. Navigating around that ensures you're following the rules and regulations now in place and ensures markets are better governed. That is always a challenge, but it's also an opportunity, and that's how we see it.

We're not coming to Brazil now; we've been there for a few years. We've got good market knowledge, good platforms that respond specifically to that market, and an excellent client or – should I say – partner base. That's how we consider our relationships with our customers; it's more of a partnership to work with and make sure that regulation supports us, our business, our customers, and their customers.

Every day, you read something a little bit different about regulations. It’s quite hard to have a direct opinion on it at the moment. Still, certainly, as a company, we take it very seriously, and we're responding accordingly
