Washington DC Sports Betting Market

The Washington DC Council unanimously approved its 2025 budget, paving the way for a competitive online sports betting market. The new budget will allow commercial operators to expand their digital offerings beyond exclusion zones.

This move aims to enhance market performance and attract additional operators interested in the DC market. The transition to a competitive market is expected to streamline processes for existing platforms and potentially offer new opportunities for local businesses with betting kiosks.

Waikato District Council Seeks Community Feedback

The Waikato District Council in New Zealand invites residents to provide input on the current Gambling Venues Policy, reviewed every three years. Environmental Health team leader Tony Pipe stated that no significant changes are proposed to the existing policy, which aims to mitigate gambling-related harm while accommodating entertainment needs and sustaining community funding.

The policy includes a 'sinking lid' approach to reduce gambling by limiting where gaming machines can be established and the number of machines allowed at Class 4 venues. Residents can submit their feedback by July 29.

Ghana's National Lottery Authority Joins European Lotteries Association as Observer Member

Ghana's National Lottery Authority (NLA) has been granted Observer Membership status by the European Lotteries Association (EL) during the EL Industry Days Seminar in Salzburg, Austria. The unanimous decision by 45 member countries followed a compelling presentation by NLA Director-General Samuel Awuku in February 2024.

The NLA met all application criteria, including financial transparency and responsible gaming certification. As an Observer Member, the NLA can now participate in EL training, capacity-building initiatives, and exchange programs. Ghana is the second African country to achieve this status, following Morocco. NLA Director-General Awuku expressed gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting its potential to enhance the NLA’s operations and international standing.

Smart Table Technology Enhances Casino

According to experts at the G2E Asia conference last month, the introduction of smart table technology is transforming the casino industry by enhancing security, fraud prevention, and player tracking. Integrating radio frequency identification (RFID) and artificial intelligence (AI), smart tables automate manual processes, improving game integrity, player ratings, and operational efficiency.

This technological shift is evident as major casinos in Macau adopt or install smart tables, marking a significant operational change. The technology collects extensive data, which enhances player experience, game production, and operational efficiency. Key advancements include chip attribution and tracking, linking each chip to a customer through a unique ID, thereby improving security and detecting fraudulent activities. Experts highlight that this technology modernises traditional table games, bringing advanced capabilities to casino operations. Source: Yogonet.
